Privacy policy

The short version. Free CV needs no account. Your CVs are kept in your browser. We have no server that stores them, and we never see them. If you turn on Google Drive backup, your CVs are copied to your own Google account.

Data in your browser. Your CVs, including your photo, are saved in this browser's storage, encrypted with a key that stays in this browser. Your language choice is also remembered there. Deleting your browser's site data removes all of it.

Google Drive backup (optional). If you turn it on:

• Free CV asks Google for one permission: to create and read its own files in a hidden app folder in your Google Drive. It can't see any of your other Drive files.
• Your CVs, including your photo, are sent directly from your browser to Google. They don't pass through us.
• Your Google name and email are read to show which account is connected, and are kept in this browser until you sign out. We don't receive them.
• The access token Google gives is kept in memory only and is gone when you close the page.
• Backups count against your Google storage.
• Google's sign-in script loads from Google when you reach the backup button, before you connect. Google then receives your IP address and can read its own cookies, under its privacy policy.

How backups are protected. Backup files are stored in your Google account, so they are protected by that account's security. They are also encoded with a key that is part of Free CV's public code. This key is not a secret: it doesn't stop Google, or anyone who gets into your Google account, from reading your backups. Use a strong password and two-step verification on your Google account.

Google user data. Free CV's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We don't sell this data, use it for advertising, or transfer it to anyone. Nobody at Free CV can read it. Google's privacy policy applies to what Google handles.

Signing out and deleting your backup. Signing out removes your CVs from this browser. Your backup stays in your Google account. To delete it, use "Delete my backup" in Free CV. Your CVs in this browser are kept. To remove Free CV's access to your Google account, go to your Google Account permissions.

Exported files. An exported .fcv file is saved on your device. Anyone with the file and Free CV can open it, so share it only with people you trust.

Hosting. The site is hosted by Vercel, which may keep technical logs such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the service. Free CV itself doesn't set cookies, and we don't use analytics or advertising.

Changes. We'll update this page when these practices change, and the effective date with it.
